VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Objectives
Aim
The aim of Palm Beach Soccer Club (PBSC) is to promote the game of association football in teams of the highest standard. To cultivate loyalty, friendship and conviviality among members and to arrange activities for the youth of our community which encourage habits and traits that develop moral character, physical health and wellbeing.

3. Personal Conduct
a) Dress Code
Volunteers are responsible for presenting a positive example to members, visitors, club partners, sponsors and the community. Volunteers shall dress appropriately whilst on duty, and refrain from clothing with offensive or objectional material.
b) Personal and Public Communication
Volunteers shall exercise discretion in any personal communication regarding their duties or other related club representatives or issues. They shall refer any media requests to comment on PBSC issues to the relevant sub-committee chairperson, Club President or General Manager to seek prior permission and guidance before speaking to the press.
Volunteers shall exercise extreme discretion in posting personal comments about PBSC matters, members, club partners, sponsors or the community on media and social media platforms. Offensive or unwarranted negative comments may result in disciplinary action. Volunteers shall contact the sub-committee chairperson, Club President or General Manager if they require advice on such communication.
c) Personal behaviour
All relationships shall be on a professional basis. Volunteers should avoid any inappropriate physical or sexual relationships with other volunteers or staff.
d) Unlawful Behaviour
PBSC will not condone any conduct or pattern of behaviour or any criminal behaviour, which may or may not incur risk of injury, physical harm to self or others or presents a substantial possibility of loss or destruction of property. This will result in termination of the volunteers’ involvement with PBSC.
4. Club Standards & Expectations
Palm Beach Soccer Club expects volunteers to adhere to the following standards when performing their duties at the club:
- Always act in good faith and within the scope of activities and instructions provided to them by the club committee or management.
- Comply with all applicable legislation, lawful instructions of the club management, Club Constitution/Rules and in-house policies.
- Comply with all Football Federation Australia Member Protection framework policies and procedures including but not limited to:
- Provide their services to the best of their ability and in such a way that it adds value to the club operation.
- Wear appropriate clothing as provided. All items of clothing must be suitable for the work environment and should not contain offensive or objectionable material (slogans or graphics).
- Be receptive to feedback and strive for constant improvements in the delivery of their services.
- Establish a businesslike but cooperative relationship with all stakeholders, including club employees and members, guests and bona fide visitors.
- Commit themselves to an appropriate decorum that reflects the character and ethos of the club. Volunteers should not exercise language, gestures and attitudes or act in such a manner that is harmful to others or embarrassing and disparaging to PBSC.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all proprietary or privileged or personal information to which they are exposed while serving as volunteers, whether this information involves a single member of staff, volunteers, beneficiary, or other person or involving the overall business of PBSC.
- Not smoke, nor use, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol and non-prescription drugs while volunteering.
- Refrain from any criminal or other illegal or unethical practices or behaviour.
- Avoid any personal, financial, conflict or other interests that might hinder their capability or willingness to perform their assigned duties.
- Be reliable, committed and honest
5. Safety
- All PBSC volunteers shall possess a valid QLD Government Working with Children (Blue) card or have an application pending.
- Approach and inform committee members should they witness unusual or dangerous behaviour. Refrain from disciplining, scolding or punishing the action.
- Comply with mandated reporting in cases of suspected child and vulnerable adult abuse or neglect.
- Do not engage in any activity that may bring harm (e.g. physical or mental) to another person or property. Report suspicious activities to committee members, Club President or General Manager.
- Follow safe workplace practices, including participation in applicable education sessions, using appropriate personal safety equipment and reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe situations.
- Respect and use all equipment appropriately and as required for duties.
6. Support for volunteers
The club will support the services offered by volunteers in the following ways:
- Clearly explain the activities to be carried out by volunteers.
- Allocate a reasonable workload and timeframe for completion of activities.
- Provide relevant equipment or resources for completion of activities.
- Offer constructive feedback on the quality of their services.
- Encourage skills development through training and practical experience.
- Ensure a safe work environment, including a complaint facilitation mechanism to address any grievances.
- Ensure confidentiality, privacy and fair treatment.
- Promote a sense of inclusiveness and appreciation of their services.
- Extend appropriate insurances for their activities.
7. Termination
PBSC may review or terminate any volunteer who engages in behaviour which, in the opinion of PBSC, may affect the proper discharge of his/her duties and responsibilities as a volunteer or affect the reputation of PBSC.
Workplace Health & Safety Policy
Palm Beach Soccer Club is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, visitors and members of the public.
Hazards to health and safety will be removed or where this is not practicable, they will be managed so as to prevent injury, illnesses and dangerous events.
PBSC considers safety and incident prevention to be vital to the ultimate success of the organisation’s operations and is an integral part of management’s responsibilities.
Management will meet these requirements by:
• complying with both the spirit and letter of the law for all matters relating to workplace health and safety
• providing a safe place to work
• providing safe working conditions and safe operating procedures for all company activities
• minimising workplace hazards
• encouraging and respecting contributions by all employees towards the improvement of workplace health and safety
• providing adequate information, instruction, training and supervision to enable every employee to perform their duties effectively and safely
• providing sufficient information to contractors and visitors on possible risks to health and safety
• making safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) available whenever required.
Each employee and volunteer has the responsibility to:
• follow all safe work practices, procedures, instructions and rules
• work in a manner which ensures the health and safety of him or herself and others
• encourage other employees to work in a healthy and safe manner
• participate in training
• report or rectify any unsafe conditions that come to their attention.
This policy is an integral part of our total management plan. Our goal is to have zero injuries to employees, volunteers, contractors and members of the public within our workplace. This can only be achieved through consultation with and cooperation by all.
