CLUB STATEMENT – JUNIOR FOOTBALL 2020
Palm Beach Soccer Club is a community-based club, run largely by volunteers who are passionate about offering levels of football to suit all young men and women in our community.
For some, it is simply about the joy of participation, being part of a team, and spending time with friends in a positive, active environment. For others, it is necessary to offer a more advanced developmental pathway.
With this in mind, the club is looking to undertake an overhaul of its coaching structure for the 2020 season. The key new features being:
Junior Technical Director (TD)
- Drive clear football philosophy
- Provide training program plans/assistance across all levels and ages
- Run ongoing coach education sessions for all levels and ages
- Available 4 x afternoons/evenings at the club (eg.4pm – 8pm)
- Lead role in development of junior girls program
- Co-ordinate and run U6 and U7 training sessions
- Oversee selection process for 2020 teams (4 Nov – 20 Dec)
'Asia C' License coaches
- One 'C License' coach for each Sharks Squad U8 – U11
- One ‘C License’ coach for each JPL side U12 - U16
- Report to the TD and act as contact/co-ordinator for their age level
This structure will provide benefits across the broad spectrum of teams and players at PBSC, and 2020 will be a year of transition to this new model.
In coming days, we will advertise for both the Junior Technical Director position, and the required number of C License coaches. The club aims to have these positions filled prior to 4 November - the scheduled start of the 2020 team selection process.
For the majority of teams, there will be only a minor change to the cost of player registration, yet they will benefit from having a TD to assist with training plans and player management, as well as more senior, qualified coaches around to lend assistance also. We need to move away from just giving coaches a bag full of balls, a few markers and some bibs, and saying ‘good luck out there’! From 2020, for each age level, our TD will be able to provide training plans, a shape/system to play, and ongoing education throughout the season.
Sharks Squad and JPL teams will see a marginal increase in registration fees, to cover the cost of having a qualified C License coach, and some extra equipment. It is clear that in order to develop these players, and retain them at our club, we need to offer this more professional pathway. This coaching structure is designed to offer a higher quality value proposition across all teams, whilst maintaining affordability for families….especially when compared to other clubs in the region that offer a similar level of professional coaching. In closing, PBSC is committed to providing a greater level of support and opportunity for coaches, so that they in turn can provide a greater level of development for our young players.
In early 2020, as part of the ‘Sign On’ process, we will run clubhouse presentations to provide further information, and outline our football philosophy for the season ahead.
